About this book
This book is a set of portraits of queer young people, aged 14 to 24, who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning. Each subject is photographed against a plain white background, which strips away surroundings and lets the focus rest on the person. The photographer then handwrites each subject's own words directly onto the finished print, so the images and the text work together.
Over a decade, the photographer made more than 65 portraits. Taken together, they present a broad range of experiences in the subjects' own voices, and the book offers a close look at how these young people see themselves and their lives.
