Eve Duncan has built a worldwide reputation by giving faces back to the dead. As a forensic sculptor, she reconstructs the features of unidentified murder victims, and she has always limited that work to police investigators and the families of innocent people. So when a caller known for anything but innocence asks for her help, she refuses. He asks again, and she refuses again. The third call comes with a threat she cannot ignore.

With lives at stake, Eve agrees to go. She leaves behind her home and the people she loves and travels alone into the Colombian jungle, to the heavily guarded, opulent compound of one of the most wanted criminals in the world. His demand is simple: she must identify a skull he has recovered. Her stated reason for going is to protect an innocent family. She has a second reason that she cannot share with the police, the CIA, or anyone else.

The man who holds her there has offered her something she has wanted for years, the answer to the darkest unresolved question in her past. Now she has to play a dangerous game against an opponent that even hardened killers avoid, knowing that the price of the truth may be her life.
