Stop, don't stop

This entry belongs to The Black Books, a series of fiction that follows a seventeen-year-old boy through his inner life, told with a dark, comic edge. When he comes home from boarding school, he finds himself slipping back into a world he had walked away from, and the circumstances of his return remain hazy and mysterious.

The narration is driven by a fondness for minute observation, reminiscent of Proust, and by a self-mocking humor. Frank preoccupations with sex, as experienced by a teenage boy, run through the story and shape much of its comedy.
