How much is a possession worth once its owner no longer uses it, especially when there is no room left for it at home? Some people send their belongings to a storage unit after a loss, a crisis, or a compulsion to hold on, or simply out of affection for objects they cannot part with. Others are collectors who have outgrown their homes, or a separated spouse left with boxes of what remains of a marriage. Some have a secret they are keeping.

The book looks inside seven units in a storage facility in downtown Toronto. Each unit belongs to a different renter, and the narrative traces the events that led each person to that particular space.

The timeline closes in the first few months of 2020, just as a global pandemic is about to add new pressures to everyone's lives.
