About this book
Stormland is a sprawling, mostly abandoned stretch of the southeastern American coast, where climate change has produced an endless cycle of hurricane-strength storms that return day after day, all year long. Its central question is whether anyone can enforce the law in a place where anarchy has taken hold.
At the heart of this lawless territory lies Charleston, South Carolina, now a flooded ruin. Several hundred people still live there, each for their own reasons. Gangs of thugs prey on the vulnerable, while a strangely kind cult works to keep everyone calm and sane. Meanwhile, wealthy and powerful figures exploit the chaos to stage a warped spectacle of cruelty.
Drawn into this turbulent region is an unlikely pair: a former serial killer and a former U.S. Marshal. Forced to work together, they set out to expose the darkness that has settled over America in the late twenty-first century.
A cyberpunk-flavored detective thriller, the novel examines how extreme weather, class division and corrupt power shape the lives of people caught in the disaster, while also showing how stubbornly the human spirit endures.
