Stowaway!

Julia Jarman's Stowaway! is set during the first journey around the world made by the Tudor explorer Sir Francis Drake. The story is told through the eyes of Dickon, a boy with a limp, who sneaks aboard the ship as a stowaway. He later becomes Drake's cabin boy and a personal hero to the captain.

The book shows what life at sea was like for Tudor sailors. Storms, mutinies and sickness are among the hazards the crew must face, and the story makes clear how hard the voyage was for those on board.
