About this book
Summer Moon begins on a warm night and follows three animals through the season. A fox pup splashes through fast-moving water for the first time, an early step before he grows up and works out his position among other creatures. A peccary, only two months old and still very much a piglet, must survive scorching temperatures and the hardships of Arizona's Sonoran Desert while searching for his mother. Meanwhile, in Washington, a young mountain lion takes on the role of father to a group of orphaned young and eventually finds a partner of his own.
The book is one volume in a series by Jean Craighead George, a naturalist and Newbery Medal winner. Across the series, she moves through the four seasons and portrays thirteen North American animals in the places they live.
