Swifty

Swifty is a young swift parrot, one of the fastest parrots anywhere, whose species is critically endangered. Her story begins as a hatchling in the blue-gum forests of Tasmania and follows her as she grows into a fledgling.

When she is ready, Swifty sets out on a demanding migration. She follows the blossoms across Bass Strait to the mainland of south-eastern Australia, where she meets many threats and dangers, and she must find her way back home.

The book is richly illustrated and also teaches young readers how to recognise a swift parrot and what they can do to help protect the species.

It is recommended for children aged 6 to 9, though reading ability varies from child to child.
