Syria

Michael Major, a photographer and writer, spent time in Syria in the early 1990s, a period of relative calm under the secular government of Hafez al-Assad. In this photo book, he records his journeys across the country and offers his own impressions of those years.

Through a mix of photographs and first-hand anecdotes, the book captures everyday life in Syria as it was before the present unrest set in. It is a visual record of a more peaceful era, seen through the eyes of someone who was there.
