Talk Talk
About This Book
Bridger first notices Dana in a club, dancing barefoot in the red light, moving to rhythms only she seems to hear. The music is so loud that neither of them can hear anything, and they talk by mouthing words across the bass. It is only on their first date, after he has fretted over which CD to put on in the car, that he discovers she is profoundly and permanently deaf. By then he is already falling in love. Soon afterward Dana is standing in a courtroom with her legs shackled while the charges are read: assault with a deadly weapon, auto theft and passing bad checks, among others. It is plainly a mistake. A man named William Peck Wilson, as Dana and Bridger eventually learn, has been committing crimes while living on her identity and at her expense. Dana and Bridger set out to track him down. The search takes them on a road trip across America and puts heavy strain on the relationship they have only just begun to build. Talk Talk by T. Coraghessan Boyle, author of The Inner Circle and Drop City, is a chase story and also a novel about language, love and identity.
