Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian family for whom food was a serious matter. Meals were judged by the quality of their ingredients and the care taken in preparing them, and family recipes and regional customs were passed from one generation to the next.

Tucci, widely known to film audiences for roles such as the one in The Devil Wears Prada and for hosting the CNN series Searching for Italy, has written cookbooks and taken part in food-related charity work. By his own account, he has probably devoted more of his life to food than to acting. This memoir follows him through both his time in the kitchen and the rest of his life, moving between high points, such as lavish dinners, and low ones, such as ruined dishes.
