Tefillin

The central claim of this book is that tefillin serves as the model for every mitzvah. Greenberg sets out to show how this single ritual stands for the wider body of commandments, and the work is organized around that argument.

The book also explains why tefillin is held in such high regard. It examines the ritual's symbolic layers and the spiritual force attributed to it, and ties that force to the way the practice mirrors the full set of 613 commandments.
