About This Book
Lieutenant Thomas Kydd takes his place on the quarterdeck as commander of the ship Tenacious in this riveting sailing adventure. Part of a small squadron commanded by Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, Kydd scours the Mediterranean in search of Napoleon and his army. Kydds ambition leads him to volunteer for shore service with the British army in the capture of Minorca and later to the Battle of the Nile as the British take on the French in a brutal struggle for naval supremacy. Ultimately the currents of war force Kydd to face histoughest challenge yet: the siege of Acre, where a handful of British seamen under the command of Sir Sidney Smith must stand against a daunting army ofmore than13,000.Review"Stockwin's writing is enriched by his own experiences in the Royal Navy, which gives scenes of fighting and tempest an authenticity to delight anyone who shares his passion for the sea. Daily Telegraph"This writer knows his stuff when it comes to describing life at sea." The Historical Novels Review"Fast action, great characters and tremendous dialogue make [Tenacious], and the five previous Kydd books, top-of-the-line naval adventures. Illawarra MercuryFrom the AuthorThe more I researched for this book, the more I came to believe that it was not Trafalgar that was Nelsons finest hour to my mind that came seven years earlier, in the shallow, sandy waters of Aboukir Bay, off the coast of Alexandria at the Battle of the Nile and an engagement which is central to this book. Tom Kydd actually meets his great hero Lord Nelson and is eye witness to his tumultuous welcome at Naples after the great victory. It is always a challenge for a writer to deal with real characters from history but no historical fiction writer dealing with the great age of sail can ignore Nelson. It was with some humility that I wrote my brief pen portrait, and I trust it gives some small insights into both the seamanship and the humanity of the man.
