About this book
Tezucomi 1 gathers nine short stories that reimagine characters and settings from the work of Osamu Tezuka, one of Japan's best-known manga creators. Each story is the work of one or two European comics creators, so the collection brings together a range of artistic voices from across the continent.
The lineup opens with "The Mouse," by Sourya, which grows out of AYAKO. "The Moon Rabbit," by Brice Cossu and Valerie Mangin, takes its inspiration from BUDDHA, while "A Taste for Blood," by Philippe Cardona and Florence Torta, reworks DORORO. Mathieu Bablet's "The Cursed" starts from METROPOLIS, and Victor Santos's "The Eyes of Pandora" draws on MW. "Love at First Sight," by JD Moravn and ScieTronc, is built on MIDNIGHT. Belen Ortega and Victor Santos team up on "Doppelganger," which comes from BARBARA. Kenny Ruiz's "The Parchment of the Cat" is rooted in MY SONGOKU, and Mig's "Catalante" closes the volume, drawn from UNICO.
This first volume is a hardcover of about 300 pages laid out in the traditional manga format, read from right to left. Tezuka trained as a physician before turning to comics, and his well-known works include Astro Boy and Black Jack.
