The Alchemist

Santiago is a young shepherd from Andalusia who keeps dreaming of travel and of a treasure grander than any ever found. Leaving his home in Spain, he crosses to the markets of Tangiers and then heads into the Egyptian desert, where he is destined to meet an alchemist.

Paulo Coelho tells this as a fable that blends spiritual searching, magical realism and folklore. It is a simple story about following a dream and about what a journey teaches the traveler along the way.

The Alchemist became a worldwide phenomenon, and many readers return to it as a source of inspiration.
