The aviators

In 1964 the Vietnam War was growing more intense, and its changed style of combat called for new weapons, new methods, and soldiers capable of using them. Almost overnight, the United States Army had to form its first Air Assault Division, a unit considered vital to the war effort.

The effort faced serious problems: inexperienced troops, equipment malfunctions, and friction between the military branches. The novel follows the men who take up this challenge and the demanding trial that awaits them.
