The Bone Trap

Gillan McArdle's academic career is coming to an end after a single careless error in judgement, yet he remains one of the most gifted young archaeologists in Scotland. A media company based in Dundee has a use for his expertise and offers him a short-term contract, which sends him to the island of Harris in the Hebrides to examine a group of unusual animal bones. Dismissing a supposed unicorn skull as a poor fake comes easily to him, but he cannot shake the sense that the remains are not ordinary.

Rumours of a striking, tusked horse roaming the high moors draw Gill deeper into the case, and he begins to suspect that someone is steering him. As he slowly works out the story behind the skull, he is forced toward a troubling conclusion: should such a creature exist, everything points to it being a killer.

Proving the skull authentic could secure his future, yet the pursuit may cost him his life, and he would not be the first to pay that price.
