The Break

Karen is stretched thin. Her job, her husband Peter and their two sons, Oscar and Noah, leave her no time for herself, and eventually the pressure becomes too much. When her friend Eve recommends a holiday home, Karen decides to step away for a few days, planning to read, enjoy long bubbly baths and simply rest.

The getaway turns out to be far from restful. The house hides a sinister past, and Karen soon realises she is not alone there. Someone has been observing her, biding their time until the moment is right, and what was meant to be a brief escape becomes a frightening ordeal.

This psychological thriller is by Daniel Hurst, whose earlier novels include The Passenger and The New Friends.
