About this book
In late 1944, Britain finally agreed to let 5,000 Jewish volunteers from Palestine join the fight against the German army in Europe. When the war ended, however, these men saw for themselves what their people had endured in the concentration camps, and their grief hardened into a cold, methodical drive for revenge. They formed clandestine teams whose task was to track down Nazi officers who had gone into hiding and to kill them. Their own violence began to threaten the group itself until a chance meeting with an orphaned girl turned them toward a different mission: rescuing Jewish war orphans and bringing them to Palestine.
That mission changed the lives of the men who undertook it and played a part in the creation of a nation. The story follows how a small band of soldiers became central to events that reshaped the course of world history.
