The Cauldron

Set in 1838 on the Eastern Frontier of the Cape Colony in southern Africa, this novel follows a story shaped by sacrifice, loyalty, armed conflict, bereavement, betrayal, family and hardship. Jane Taylor and Dr Robert Armstrong feel a strong pull toward each other from their first meeting. Their courtship leads to marriage and the birth of a son, and together they build a household in Cradock, a small and isolated town.

Their happiness is broken by a devastating tragedy that separates the couple, at a time when the wider community is being torn apart by war and mistrust.
