The Graveyard Shift

Marty Keller is a bounty hunter who knows the work is rough, but he expects to be paid for it. Malcolm O'Brian, who owns a stagecoach line, has offered a reward for a robber who keeps preying on his coaches. Keller gets his man despite coming under heavy fire, and only afterward does he start wondering where O'Brian, who is short of cash, plans to find the money.

O'Brian's answer is a bigger bargain: double the pay if Keller will end the threat to the line for good. That puts the bounty hunter up on the box as a shotgun guard, prepared to take on as many outlaws as it takes, on a run where the real freight is gunfire and death.
