The Hit

This steamy enemies-to-lovers romance pairs a former special forces operative, cast as protector, with a blunt, spirited heroine. Each is the other's only real way out. He is her single chance at staying alive, and she is the closest thing he has to a second chance at redemption.

Elias "Shep" Shepherd once served with Team Zulu, a covert black operations unit. Now he believes his only remaining purpose is removing the worst kind of human predator from domestic soil. After years of brutal deployments, his remote cabin in the Appalachian Mountains is the one place where he finds quiet, away from other people and a world where he no longer belongs. When he takes a Mafia contract, he expects a target who is a stranger, not a woman, and certainly not the most striking person he has ever seen in grease-stained overalls. She gets under the guard he has built around his hardened heart. Despite the danger, he is determined to protect her, even if it means breaking his strict rule against visitors at the cabin.

Cameron McKenzie, a muscle car mechanic, takes one look at the hulking man who has abducted her and knows he is a lethal fighter. She has no intention of surrendering without a struggle. Hidden in his isolated mountain home, she begins to question whether Shep is the cold monster she first assumed. As trust grows between them, so does a powerful attraction to the unlikely protector who has her under his watch.

If the Mafia learns that Cameron is still alive, Shep will need every elite skill he possesses to keep them both safe. He is no longer sure which threat is more dangerous: the Mob's demand for merciless vengeance, or the woman who makes him want to deserve her love.
