The Lagoon

This collection gathers stories about love in its many forms, from the heartbreaking to the joyful. The writers include O. Henry, Joseph Conrad, Guy de Maupassant and Anton Chekhov, among others.

In one story, a man sits in a boat anchored on a lagoon deep in the jungle and listens to his friend tell of a doomed love and a dying lover. In another, a philosopher wanders an apple orchard trying to work out the codes of love, not realising that his efforts are spoiling his own chances.
