The Lost

The Lost is a mystery from Jeffrey B. Burton featuring a cadaver dog and her handler. A home invasion at the mansion of billionaire financier Kenneth J. Druckman in Glencoe, a wealthy northern suburb of Chicago, has turned into a kidnapping. Druckman was assaulted and left behind, while his wife and young daughter were taken for ransom. The FBI brings in Mason "Mace" Reid, who specializes in human remains detection, along with Vira, the star of his pack of cadaver dogs known as The Finders. Vira locates the body of the mother, former supermodel Calley Kurtz, and the search for the missing five-year-old becomes a race to find her before she is gone for good. The trail Vira picks up in the dense woods on the property leads back to Druckman himself. With the help of Detective Kippy Gimm, Reid and Vira work against the clock, in a case where nothing is what it seems and the red herrings could prove deadly.
