The mighty Walzer

Oliver Walzer is a shy Jewish boy growing up in Manchester in the 1950s, in a household where the women set the tone. Somewhere along the way he discovers a real gift for ping-pong. Women and sex are another matter, and there his progress is far less smooth.

Howard Jacobson, the British novelist, tells this coming-of-age story with a comic touch.
