The Red Sofa
About This Book
Anne is a young woman who boards the Trans-Siberian Railway to look for Gyl, her former lover, who left twenty years earlier. As the train crosses post-Soviet Russia and its devastated landscapes, she thinks back over her past with Gyl and the patriotic struggles they shared. She also thinks about the neighbor she has just left behind, Clémence Barrot.
Rocked by the motion of the train, Anne is drawn back to her memories of Clémence, who is old and losing her memory but has kept her taste for life and adventure. From her red sofa at home, Clémence loves to tell Anne the story of her life. She mourns those she has lost and celebrates the brave, rebellious women who came before her.
The Red Sofa is a novella of just over one hundred pages. Anne's journey turns out to be about more than finding Gyl, and it brings her back home with something more meaningful than what she set out to find.
