The Resentment
About This Book
Lauren Kaine seems to have everything she wanted: a beautiful home, a Lexus, a bright sixteen-year-old son, and a loving husband, William, who has built a lucrative career online. On the night they celebrate twenty-two years of marriage, they stroll hand in hand under the Seattle sky, until a mysterious black Audi appears from nowhere and chases William onto a bridge. He shouts, "They're here for the card," and falls to his death. Lauren lashes out at the car, but its tinted windows hide the driver, and it speeds off. Still grieving, she sets out to find her husband's killer. Then a stranger phones and demands the card. William never mentioned any card, and she has no idea where it is. The stranger follows her and torments her, and he threatens to kidnap her son and throw him into the same river that killed William. Black cars seem to wait around every corner. William's co-workers will not speak to her, and her brother-in-law, silent for years, turns up again and seems to know something. Time is running out as she searches for the card, and the hunt drags her back to the first time someone kidnapped her son, to her resentment, and to the truth. The tagline reads: "You're only as sick as your secrets."
