The Rickover Effect

Hyman Rickover, a Navy admiral, is the central figure in this account of how the United States built its nuclear-powered fleet. The author traces his part in that effort from the early days of nuclear propulsion onward.

The book also looks at the Navy's attempt to push Rickover into retirement, despite the fact that lawmakers and the President were honoring him publicly at the same time. Readers interested in naval history, military leadership, or the politics of defense programs will find it relevant.
