The Scam

Nicolas Fox is a charming con man and a gifted thief, and as far as the world knows he is a fugitive. Kate O'Hare is the FBI agent who has made it her mission to catch him. The truth is quite different: the two have joined forces in secret, targeting the kind of criminals the legal system has never managed to touch.

Their latest mark is Evan Trace, a ruthless casino owner who launders money through his Macau operation. His clientele includes mobsters, dictators and international terrorists, and he has built an empire on their cash. To get close enough to bring it down, Nick and Kate must slip into Trace's world as high rollers, putting millions of dollars and their own lives on the table.

The job pulls them from the Las Vegas strip to the sunny beaches of Oahu's North Shore, and finally into the shadowy back streets of Macau. The help they can count on is hardly conventional: a vain actor, a Somali pirate, and Kate's father, a former soldier convinced that a rocket launcher is the answer to just about any problem. With a crew like that, plenty could go wrong.

This is the fourth Fox and O'Hare novel, a fast-moving caper that mixes heists, banter and a slow-burning partnership between its two leads.
