The silenced

A congressman's media aide, Lara, walks away from her job one evening and vanishes somewhere between her office and her Washington, D.C., apartment. That same night, her childhood friend Meg Murray, a rookie FBI agent, receives a message in which Lara says she has lost faith in her work and is heading back to Richmond, Virginia. Meg learns Lara never arrived there, and the discovery of bodies resembling Lara along nearby rivers raises a frightening question: is a serial killer responsible?

To help with the case, Meg is teamed with Special Agent Matt Bosworth, a tough, seasoned investigator in the Krewe of Hunters, the FBI's unit for paranormal cases. The two follow the path Meg and Lara once traveled together, stopping at battlefields and cemeteries between Harpers Ferry and Gettysburg, places where, according to the story, the dead reveal their secrets to those able to hear them.

As Meg and Matt chase the serial killer theory, they are drawn into what appears to be a political conspiracy. They must determine whether the two threads are connected and decide who, apart from each other, they can rely on.
