The Silkie's Daughter

Brigit is human on dry land and swims as a selkie in the sea. She knows the old songs and legends by heart, including the tales of Neve, the daughter of the sea god, of the warrior Finn MacCool, and of people who are not quite human. She also knows a truth she must hide from everyone: she is the daughter of a selkie. The webbing between her fingers gives her away, and it has to be cut.

The story is set in Nova Scotia. Someone in Brigit's village is killing young seals, and the king of the selkie clan is furious and vows revenge. His vengeance would bring a curse of storm, sickness and death.

To protect the people she loves, Brigit must find her way to Sule Skerrie, the land of the selkies, and confront the Great Selkie to keep the young seals from harm. The novel is a fantasy steeped in Celtic mythology, and it should suit readers who enjoy mermaid stories or tales in the spirit of Studio Ghibli.
