The Son
About This Book
Sonny Lofthus has spent nearly half his life behind bars in Oslo, serving time for crimes he never committed. He confesses to them anyway, and in return he is kept supplied with heroin. Other inmates come to him as well, drawn by a calm, almost Buddha-like willingness to hear their sins and absolve them. His father was a policeman on the take who killed himself rather than be exposed, and the fallout has never stopped. Prison staff, officers, lawyers and even a desperate priest have a stake in keeping Sonny sedated and locked away, and together they form a web of corruption that reaches well beyond his cell. Then Sonny learns something shocking about the way his father died. He engineers a clever escape and sets out to find the people who wrecked his life and his father's. Freedom brings no safety, though. Sonny is hunted by more enemies than he can count, in a city where the powerful protect one another. Jo Nesbo, best known for the Harry Hole novels, builds this as a vengeance thriller driven by one question: who will reach Sonny first, and what will he do once he is cornered?
