The Spin

In the suburbs of Los Angeles, the Crawfords look like an ordinary American family. Leo is a rising star in advertising. His wife, Rose, is brilliant, restless and pregnant with their second child. Their teenage daughter, Melinda, is already drifting toward rebellion.

Then Rose disappears during a family vacation, and the woman who returns is not the same. For a while she seems to settle back into daily life, until a new color television sets off a complete breakdown. Rose insists that voices are speaking to her through the screen. Doctors diagnose hysteria, her family is frightened, and she ends up in an institution where women are silenced, drugged and erased.

Determined to help his wife, Leo finds evidence that her collapse may not be a mental illness at all, especially once he learns the real reason she was institutionalized. The further he digs, the more he suspects that his whole family is in danger, because what was done to Rose was only the beginning.
