The spring rabbit

Life in the woods can feel lonely when every other rabbit has a sibling to play with, and that is exactly how Smudge feels. Each time he asks his mother for a brother or sister, she tells him to be patient and wait until spring. For a young rabbit, though, spring seems impossibly far away.

Rather than wait, Smudge tries to make a companion himself. In autumn he gathers leaves and twigs to shape a brother, only to watch the wind carry him off. When winter arrives, he sculpts a sister out of snow, but she too disappears as the weather changes. Will Smudge's longing for a sibling ever be fulfilled?
