The Thief

Sola Morte used to make her living breaking into places and cracking safes. She has left that life behind, but the family of a drug lord is still after her, so she has gone to ground far from Caldwell with her grandmother, the one person she is determined to protect. What she cannot shake is the man she left up north. Assail, son of Assail, is the only person who ever got past her guard.

Assail never planned to fall for anyone, least of all a human woman. He is a vampire, a secret Sola knows nothing about, and he also supplies weapons to the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a business he has no intention of giving up. Between the lie and the arms deals, the two of them seem to have no future together.

Then Assail slips into a coma and hovers close to death. His cousins track Sola down and ask her to give him something to fight for. Returning to the world she escaped is the last thing she wants, but she cannot let him die.

A dangerous new enemy of the vampires is now on the move, and the Brotherhood needs Assail back on his feet. Sola finds herself hunted and, without understanding why, vital to a war she knew nothing about. When the truth about Assail finally comes out, she must decide whether to run from the horror or stay with the male who loves her more than his own life. This is a paranormal romance in J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
