The Widow
About This Book
Simon Latch practices law in a small town in rural Virginia. He earns just enough to cover his bills, and his marriage is quietly coming apart. His routine changes when Eleanor Barnett, an elderly widow, comes to his office wanting a new will drawn up. Her late husband left her a small fortune, and she says nobody else knows it exists.
Landing the wealthiest client he has ever had, Simon sets about keeping her money out of the public eye. Before long, though, cracks appear in her account of things. After she ends up in the hospital following a car accident, he starts to see that very little about her or her situation is what it seemed.
Then Simon is the one in the dock, charged with murder. He insists he is innocent, but the evidence against him is circumstantial and persuasive enough that he could spend the rest of his life in prison. His only way out is to track down the person who really did it.
The Widow is John Grisham's first whodunit, a departure from the courtroom-centered legal thrillers he is best known for.
