The wolf pit

In 1966, when he was a toddler, Will Cohu's grandparents settled in Bramble Carr, an isolated cottage on the Yorkshire moors. He spent summers and winters there as a boy, and to him the open moorland meant liberty. Only as he grew older did he come to understand what the adults around him had given up to live in such a famously beautiful place.

The Wolf Pit portrays a countryside that is by turns passionate, comic and unsettling. Beneath its beauty runs a current of alcohol, disappointment and a darker despair that the author calls the black dog of self-destruction.
