Theory time

Young beginners take their first steps into music with this workbook. Its lessons move through the keyboard, starting with drills that cover high, middle and low registers, then the music alphabet and an introduction to the staff. Students also learn how dynamics work, how line and space notes are read, and how to recognise steps and skips on both keyboard and staff. Later sections teach repeated notes, the lines and spaces of the treble and bass clefs, and the quarter, half and whole notes along with their matching rests. A dotted half note, rhythm practice written without a time signature, ear training and a closing review test round out the material.

The book is designed for kindergarten children and younger first or second graders. It runs to 59 pages, with 11 lessons and 7 fun sheets. It is beginning Fundamental Level course material.
