This Is 40

Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann return as Pete and Debbie, the couple first met in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, in this screenplay for This Is 40, the 2012 comedy Apatow wrote and directed. Following the Knocked Up story by five years, the film follows an ordinary American household as it moves through the ups and downs of married and family life.

The story takes in romance and sex, professional highs and money troubles, ageing parents, and children growing up, and it asks what a family needs to thrive midway through a shared life. Apatow drew on his own experience, working with his wife and children, which gives the material a close, personal feel.

This edition of the Newmarket Shooting Script opens with an introduction by writer and actor Lena Dunham, written for this book. It also contains Apatow's answers to a set of questions titled "Five Obvious Questions" and an afterword on how he writes and directs. The complete screenplay is included, along with 35 colour photographs and full cast and crew credits.
