This Is Jazz

Can anyone be a modern dancer? This picture book says yes, and it sets out to prove it. Written by Dr. Rekha S. Rajan, an early childhood educator and performer known around the world, it opens the door to jazz dance and other modern styles for the youngest readers.

The book moves through a range of dance forms, from tap to swing, and shows how lively and expressive this kind of movement can be. Styles from different parts of the world are woven in, so children see that dance belongs to many cultures and many kinds of people.

Above all, the book invites kids to move in their own way, in any place they like. They can twirl on their own or groove alongside friends, and the aim is to build joy, confidence and creativity through movement.
