Three Wise Men
About This Book
Beau Wise is a United States Marine Corps combat veteran, and he is the only known American service member pulled from the battlefield after losing two brothers in Afghanistan. Written with Tom Sileo and told in Beau's own voice, this memoir recounts how his family gave up more than any other military family during America's longest war. After the September 11 attacks, all three Wise brothers volunteered to defend their country, and they became brothers in arms as well as by blood. Jeremy Wise, a US Navy SEAL veteran working as a CIA contractor, was killed in Afghanistan in an al Qaeda suicide bombing that devastated the US intelligence community. He received the Intelligence Star, one of the rarest awards the US government bestows, and a star on the CIA's Memorial Wall. Less than three years later, Ben Wise, a US Army Green Beret sniper, was fatally wounded in a firefight with the Taliban after volunteering for a dangerous assignment. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star. The book is a true story about family, service and sacrifice, centered on the brothers' bond and on what it meant for Beau to become the only Sole Survivor of the war in Afghanistan.
