Through the Open Window
About This Book
Through the Open Window is a novel about the strong but fragile bond between a mother and her daughters. It follows three independent women who live on their own terms: Jannat Kaur and her twin daughters, Mahira and Tamannah. It is as much about love and longing as it is about women who can look honestly at their mistakes, even when the realization comes late. The story moves back and forth in time to show how Jannat reached her present life as a managing partner in a leading company, with twins now in college. Her past begins in her college days, when she becomes pregnant and is rejected by her boyfriend. She faces the worries of becoming a single mother, then falls in love again with a man who accepts her daughters as his own. Her life is shattered once more, and she is left to raise the twins alone. The daughters have emotional struggles of their own. Tamannah, much like her mother, is caught up in the men in her life. Mahira fights daily for a sense of self and tries to step out of the shadow of the two fiercely assertive, headstrong women who raised her. The novel shows how love can create, destroy and create again.
