Tidesong

Sophie is a young witch whose mother and grandmother expect her to enroll at the Royal Magic Academy, which they regard as the finest school of its kind in the realm. Her spellwork is far from steady, though, and she must first prepare for the entrance exams. To do that, she is sent to live with relatives she has never met, who seem far more interested in keeping her busy with housework than in teaching her anything.

Frustrated, Sophie tries a spell on her own, and it backfires, binding her magic to that of Lir, a young water dragon. Stranded on land, Lir cannot recall where he came from. He is everything Sophie feels she is not: her family adores him, and he is highly skilled at magic. With his help she might pass her exams, but doing so would mean obstructing Lir's efforts to regain his memories. Sophie knows her actions are wrong, yet she wonders whether she can prove her worth without him.

This graphic novel explores friendship and learning to accept yourself, told through illustrated panels and a gentle fantasy setting.
