About this book
On 2 August 2015, Jason Corbett, an Irishman living in North Carolina, was killed in his home by his American wife, Molly Martens, and her father, Tom Martens. Jason's eight-year-old daughter, Sarah, and her brother Jack were in the house that night, asleep upstairs.
Sarah Corbett Lynch is now eighteen, and here she tells her story for the first time. She recalls her earliest memories of her much-loved father and describes family life with him, Jack and Molly Martens in North Carolina. She gives her own account of the events leading up to the night that changed everything, and of what came after his death. Her words were twisted amid lies and deception during the family's nine-year fight for justice, and she describes the devastation they all felt when Molly and Tom Martens were released from prison in 2024 after serving only three and a half years.
Sarah draws on diaries she has kept since she was eight to describe her grief and her recovery from trauma. She and Jack were taken in by her aunt Tracey, her father's sister, who gave them a safe and loving home in Ireland. The book closes by looking ahead, as Sarah says she is determined to honour the memory of both her parents and to do what she can to make the world better.
