Time Troopers
About This Book
Time Troopers is an anthology of new and classic stories that mix time travel with military science fiction. Its starting idea is that warfare has already grown from two dimensions to three with submarines, aircraft and spaceflight, and that time travel would add a fourth. That would call for new defenses, strategies and tactics. A battle already won might be fought again, or a narrow victory quietly tipped the other way, so history books become only works in progress. The stories also range into parallel universes and alternate realities. One imagines a world where Rome never fell and its legions want to act against a universe where it did. Another imagines recent wars that ended very differently. The editor wonders whether such realities would really differ from ours, or whether the tune would stay the same with different lyrics. Contributors include Robert Silverberg, Poul Anderson, Fritz Leiber, John C. Wright and H. Beam Piper, among others. The settings run from swords to ray blasters, across many eras and time streams. The anthology is edited by Hank Davis, who has also compiled other themed collections, including Cosmic Corsairs, In Space No One Can Hear You, A Cosmic Christmas 2 and As Time Goes By.
