To Kill a Shadow

Jude Maddox has never known tenderness or light. Duty is all he has carried: as the Hand of Death, he must guide the Knights of the Eternal Star into a territory where dreams turn to horror and death waits at every step. Then he notices a young woman whose amber eyes burn wild, a fighter as bold, unyielding, and quick as the shadow creatures she faces, and for the first time something warm stirs in his veins.

Among the Knights, Jude's cold, pitiless manner makes him a figure to be feared. Kiara Frey, a woman cast out from her own people, looks at him and sees a commander who has learned how to endure. She recognizes someone like herself. Yet desire for him is as perilous as the shadows themselves, and just as alluring.

As the kingdom teeters toward ruin, the Knights must push into the deepest part of the land and learn what lies within the shrouded shadows. There, evil feeds on the mind and the flesh, corrupts the senses, and outdoes any nightmare. Most of them will not survive. Their only hope against the dark is to turn into it.
