Traitor's Knot

Volume seven of The Wars of Light and Shadow, Traitor's Knot is the penultimate book in the Alliance of Light arc. Half-brothers Lysaer and Arithon once brought down the Mistwraith, but the creature's revenge left them bound by a curse that keeps them locked in lifelong enmity. Arithon, the Master of Shadow, has since earned his own redemption by conquering the labyrinth, and he now lives as a guest of Davien the Betrayor, a formidable sorcerer. Nobody knows how Davien's influence will affect Arithon's restored mage power or the prescient talent that has only recently awakened in him.

Those who want Arithon destroyed will stop at nothing. The Koriani enchantresses intend to take him captive and make him their pawn. Meanwhile, the Alliance of Light's fanatics are regrouping after their defeat, and their priesthood has been corrupted at its core by a dark cabal. These conspirators plan to enslave Lysaer and turn the Mistwraith's curse into a private weapon capable of breaking the world's order. The sorcerers of the Fellowship compact are under heavy pressure, and the clans are tallying ruinous losses.

Arithon holds the last hope of survival for these peoples, yet he has chosen the most perilous course. Heart and mind, he has dedicated himself to avoiding killing, even as allies and enemies gather for war, fixed on their goals and blind to what their choices will cost.
