About this book
Across more than five decades devoted to the ministry of the Word, David Jackman looks back on what he has learned and offers practical help for preachers wrestling with persistent difficulties and common traps. The book is organised around separate themes, each one meant to refine the reader's understanding of what it means to be a faithful expositor and a servant of Scripture.
Jackman is well placed to write on this subject. He has spent far longer preaching and equipping others to preach than many of his readers have been alive. His remarks, observations and appeals are intended to spark fresh reflection and to encourage those who stand to speak God's word.
Jackman studied at Cambridge and then spent six years with the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship. He trained in theology at Trinity College, Bristol, and served for fifteen years at Above Bar Church in Southampton. In 1991 he founded the Cornhill Training Course in London, a ministry of the Proclamation Trust, where he worked for eighteen years and latterly as President. In retirement he continues to preach, teach and write, and he enjoys family life with his wife, Heather, and their four grandchildren.
