About this book
Each week, a little girl and her grandfather head out to hunt for small finds, then add them to the keepsake box she keeps tucked away. Their walks turn up things like a cracked robin's egg, a rusty coil from an old spring, and a snakeskin that makes Grandpa scrunch his face and pull silly expressions.
When Grandpa becomes too ill to come along, she brings a few of their finds to him at the hospital. After he dies, she cannot bring herself to even open the box. Later, Grammy gives her some items that Grandpa wanted her to have, and the two of them open the box together and carry on their weekly hunts.
The story shows that time spent with someone you love stays with you long after they are gone. Written for young readers, it speaks to children who have grandparents, including those who have lost one, and its illustrations appear throughout.
