Trey

Josh Conley returns to the world of The Heartbreak Hotel with Trey, a crime story that picks up where that book left off. Julius is consumed by a need for payback over the setup of his cousin Jackson, and he blames Jade for it. One night he moves to kill her, but when he corners her in a parking garage, she tells him something that keeps her alive, at least for now.

That revelation shakes Julius, and he responds by sharing a secret of his own: someone close to Jade may have had a hand in the murder of their father, Trey. The two set out to find out what really happened. Their search leads them to a homeless person who tells them far more about their father than they expected. As they learn about the life Trey lived, it becomes clear that the story they have been told does not add up. With a life-or-death choice in front of them, a dark secret comes to light.

The novel asks whether Julius can face what he has learned, whether he can forgive the people who betrayed his family, or whether his thirst for vengeance will push him toward a violent outcome.
